DIVISION I TEAM PREVIEWS  |  DAY 8 OF 8

NORTH ATLANTIC REGION!

Penn State entered the 2023 Regular Season with heavy expectations after falling in the World Series semi-finals the year prior. With 2 Winner Series Championships already on their resume (’13 & ’18), the Nittany Lions looked to join Colorado State as the only other program to win 3+ Titles.  A 13-2 Regular Season record earned them the #1 seed at the Regional.  3 consecutive dominant wins pushed Penn State back to the World Series as the #2 seed. After losing to Defending Champion Florida State in the semi’s, they battled back to defeat the Noles in the elimination game to secure a spot in the Championship.  Penn State went on to defeat UW Whitewater by a score of 6-3 to capture their 3rd overall Title.

Penn State is looking to become the first program since Colorado State (2008 – 2010) to successfully defend their Title.  Can they do it?

Great Lakes Team Previews

DIVISION I TEAM PREVIEWS  |  DAY 7 OF 8

GREAT LAKES REGION!

From 3-16 in 2022 to World Series Runner Up in 2023,  not sure we’ll ever see a one year transformation like we did with the Univ. of Wisconsin Whitewater.  After securing their 1st ever Conference Title, the Warhawks headed to Fort Wayne, IN as the #3 seed for the Regional Tournament.  UWW went 3-0 on the weekend, allowing just 4 total runs to secure their 1st ever World Series berth.  Entering as the bottom seed, the Cinderella story continued as they took out #1 seed Utah State, Defending Champ Florida State & former Champion Virginia Tech to reach the Title game. While UWW ultimately fell to Penn State, their 2023 season was one for the memory books.

Heading into 2024 the Great Lakes Region took on some exciting realignment.  Newcomers Ohio State, Miami (OH), Dayton, Ohio & Cincinnati are looking to shake things up! Don’t forget about Michigan, Illinois State, Notre Dame & Wisconsin – all four perennial Playoff teams looking to rebound in 2024.

Louisiana State Univ. has quickly become a powerhouse down in the Gulf Coast Region.  Over the past two years they have a combined 24-3 conference record, earning them two straight Conference Titles.  The Tigers have also won two straight Regional Tournaments resulting in back to back World Series appearances.  In a Region that’s incredibly deep, LSU will surely have their hands full again in 2024.  Fresh off their 2nd place finish at the Regional last year,  Alabama brings back 22 players this Spring.  The Mustangs of Southern Methodist look to build off their 3rd place Regional finish as well.  How about Texas A&M?  13 Conference Titles. 8 Regional Tournament Appearances. 2002 World Series Champ.  Don’t ever count out the Aggies.

Can LSU reach their 3rd straight World Series? Who will stop them?

Virginia Tech has established themselves as one of the premiere programs in the NCBA through their recent dominance.  The Hokies took home the 2021 World Series Title off two of the best Playoff pitching performances the NCBA has ever seen.  Skylar Petry threw the 3rd ever NO HITTER in World Series play, only to be topped by his teammate Braden Huebsch throwing the 1st ever PERFECT GAME in the Championship Final.  VT was then a game short of the 2022 World Series, falling in the Regional Championship to East Carolina.  The Hokies climbed back in 2023 taking home the Regional Championship making a return to the World Series, though their bid for a 2nd Nat’l Championship came to end after losing to UW Whitewater in the semi finals.
